The Malta National Cyber Security Challenge took place online between the 31st July 2021 and 1st August 2021. This 24 hour Challenge aimed to identify and recognize local talent between the age of 16 to 25. This event catered for all levels from Information Security aspirants to Information Security professionals already working in the field. The focus of the event was to instill the culture of information security within youths, to educate and ultimately to have fun.
Participants had the opportunity to register in groups of 1-4 members and were given 28 unique jeopardy style challenges to be solved. These teams had to solve security related tasks from domains such as web application security, network security, cryptography, exploitation, reverse engineering and forensics, amongst others.
On 1st August 2021, each team had to deliver a presentation. Marks were allocated to technical expertise and presentation skills.
The winning team, Blink who was a one man team formed by Axel Curmi, was announced on the 2nd August and was given a €1000 prize voucher.
16 individuals were shortlisted from all participants and were invited for a physical interview at the MITA Data Centre, Santa Venera. These participants were further shortlisted to the below 12 participants.
