Ransomware attack disrupts pipeline service for two days

A ransomware attack was launched against a U.S gas compression facility that made it go offline for two days.

It was reported that the hackers were able to penetrate the IT section of the facility’s network and then moved beyond to infiltrate and take control of the operational technologies of the facility.

The incident had multiple negative effects. Because of the lack of preparedness and industrial pipeline dependencies, many industries and other pipeline facilities were impacted. The parent company also admitted that its disaster recovery plans only included emergency scenarios that didn’t factor cyber-attacks.
