TikTok, the application that has been ranked as the third most popular app of 2019, is under scrutiny after a security vulnerability was discovered that could enable attackers to manipulate content and steal personal information of its users. This was possible by knowing the mobile number linked to the user’s account and sending them an SMS on behalf of TikTok. The SMS would contain malware which the attacker’s used to hijack the user’s profile.
This vulnerability could allow an attacker to delete users’ videos, upload unauthorized videos on users’ profile, publish private videos publicly and access all personal details.
All TikTok users are required to keep the application updated and remain vigilant for unsolicited links including SMS.
